Prophecy of death in C’River EXCO resurfaces as power commissioner dies

Reading Time: 2 minutes

The sudden death of Cross River State Commissioner for Power and Renewable Energy, Prince Eka Williams (also referred to as Dr. Eka Williams Abang), has thrown the state’s political and public service community into mourning. It has also drawn fresh attention to a July social media post by Evangelist Effiong Ephraim II describing a vision of a dark-skinned person “snatched out by the hand of death in CRS exco chamber.”

Williams died on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at a hospital in Abuja where he was receiving medical attention. His brother, Nkang Williams, announced the death in a statement on Sunday, expressing deep shock.

“I am struggling to believe that I am writing these words about you, my beloved brother, Dr. Eka Williams Abang. How can someone who was here with us suddenly become a memory? How can a familiar voice, a loving presence, and a precious life suddenly be silenced? My heart is broken,” Williams wrote. He described his brother as more than a sibling, a companion whose departure left a void words could not fill, and said the family would celebrate the life he lived, the people he touched and the relationships he built.

Associates who saw Williams only days earlier also expressed disbelief. Pius Kejuo Osang, a former councillor in Boki Local Government Area, said: “I don’t understand, I was with him on Tuesday, I slept in his hotel.” Michael Gabriel Jr., Executive Media Assistant to Senator John Owan-Enoh, described the late commissioner as “a dedicated public servant and a good man,” noting that Ikom Local Government Area had lost someone of humility and impact.

While mainstream reports focused on the family’s grief and the loss to the administration of Governor Bassey Otu—the second serving commissioner to die during his first term—the prophetic angle has circulated in some online discussions. On 28 July, Evangelist Effiong Ephraim II, associated with House of Salem Global in Calabar, posted on Facebook under the heading “Prophetic watch”: “I saw a dark skin person snatched out by the hand of death in CRS exco chamber… It was a shock.”

The post, which included a globe icon indicating public visibility, did not name any individual. Williams’ death occurred in Abuja rather than during a State Executive Council meeting in Calabar. An earlier commissioner, Abubakar Robert Ewa (Tourism), had died in January 2025 after attending an EXCO meeting.

No official reaction from the Cross River State Government or the evangelist linking the July vision specifically to Williams’ passing was immediately available. The coincidence has nonetheless prompted conversations among some residents and social media users about prophetic claims in the state, even as the primary public response remains one of mourning for a serving official.

William had served as Commissioner for Power and Renewable Energy under the Otu administration. Condolences continue to pour in for his family and colleagues.
