CALABAR —The Governing Council of the University of Calabar has announced the appointment of Professor Offiong Effanga Offiong as the new 12th substantive Vice Chancellor of the institution NEGROIDHAVEN can report authoritatively.
The announcement, made on Thursday in Calabar after the Council’s special meeting, ends months of anticipation over who would succeed the outgoing Vice Chancellor, Prof. Florence Banku Obi, whose tenure is set to expire by December.
Prof. Offiong, a renowned scholar in Chemistry and administrator, emerged after a rigorous selection process involving several shortlisted candidates.
The Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Udom Ekpoudom, who made the announcement, congratulated Prof. Offiong and urged him to consolidate on the achievements of his predecessors while advancing the university’s vision for academic excellence and institutional growth.
Staff and students of the university have since received the news with excitement, with many describing his emergence as “a reward for dedication and competence.”
Prof. Offiong Effanga Offiong’s appointment takes effect from December 2025 marking a new chapter in the leadership of one of Nigeria’s foremost federal universities.
