CALABAR– Dr. Orok Otu Duke, the Cross River State representative on the board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), has concluded a two-day Christmas outreach program, distributing essential food items to key institutions across the state NEGROIDHAVEN can report.
The exercise, which took place on Tuesday and Wednesday, was aimed at providing festive season support to organizations that serve the public. The primary item distributed was bags of premium parboiled rice and vegetable oil.
Beneficiaries of the initiative included several public offices including that of the state governor, and Speaker of the 10th State House of Assembly, with the office of the chief judge of the state, Commissioner for Police, Assistant Inspector General of Police (Zone 6), State Director of Department of State Service, prominently featured.
Brigade Commander of the 13 Brigade Nigerian Army, Commanding Officer of 130 Battalion in Ogoja, Commanding Officer of the Reece Battalion, Afi Barracks in Ikom, 341 Artillery Regiment in Calabar, Commodore of the Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) Victory in Calabar, Naval Fleet Support Group (East) in Calabar, Nigerian Airforce Base in Calabar, Nigerian Airforce Base in Ogoja, Commanding Officer of the Eastern Naval Command, State Commandant of the NSCDC, Chairman of the Traditional Rulers Council, host communities and retirees within the state were also among the recipients.
The distribution was coordinated directly from the office of the Commissioner.
A total of four hundred and twenty bags as well as 420 bottles of vegetable oil were distributed to the above-listed beneficiary institutions.
When contacted for comment, Dr. Duke stated that the outreach was a seasonal gesture of goodwill and support, consistent with the NDDC’s mandate to foster development and improve welfare in the Niger Delta region.
The NDDC, a federal government intervention agency, is tasked with facilitating the sustainable development of Nigeria’s oil-rich Niger Delta region. Initiatives such as this holiday distribution form part of its community engagement and support programs.
