Joseph “La’Shakara” Edet delivers water, power projects to Odukpani communities

The projects are expected to improve public health, enhance security and support small-scale economic activities in the benefiting communities.

Several rural communities in Odukpani Local Government Area of Cross River state are to benefit from improved access to potable water and electricity following the flag-off of multiple infrastructure projects by the Managing Director of Summit Hills Estate Development Services Limited NEGROIDHAVEN can report.

The projects, initiated by the M.D of the firm, Mr. Joseph “La’Shakara” Edet, includes the drilling of boreholes and the installation of a power transformer and solar-powered street lights across communities in the OMO bloc of the council area.

According to the project details, boreholes are to be drilled at Adiabo Community, Ikot Okon and the Calabar Oil Palm Estate in Odukpani Central Ward; Obomitiat Community in Mbiabo/Obomitiat/Ediong Ward; and Atan Odot Community in Odot Ward. A power transformer and solar street lights are also to be installed at Odukpani Junction in Odukpani Qua Town.

Speaking at the flag-off ceremony, Edet said the interventions were informed by interactions with residents and the need to address basic infrastructure deficits affecting rural livelihoods.

“These projects are aimed at easing the challenges faced by our people, particularly in access to clean water and electricity,” he said.

Representatives of the Cross River State Government who attended the event, namely, Ekpenyong Akiba, Esq the Special Adviser on General Duties, Mr. Kenneth Anam, Special Assistant Office of the Wife of the Governor, described the initiative as a complementary effort to public infrastructure development in the area.

The Chairman of Odukpani Local Government Area, Etim Ukpong Asido, while flagging off the projects, urged residents to protect the facilities from vandalism to ensure their sustainability. He described Edet as a “conduit through which God is blessing the OMO bloc.”

As part of the programme, cash grants were also distributed to over 100 beneficiaries from communities within the OMO bloc.

The event had in attendance the APC Chapter Chairman for Odukpani, Mr. Edem Anam and other dignitaries.
