The Governor of Cross River state, Bassey Edet Otu, has urged students from the state studying at the Nigeria Police Academy, Wudil, Kano State, to uphold discipline, integrity and professionalism in the course of their training and future careers.
Otu gave the charge when he met with the students (represented by the SA on Student Affairs), who were in Calabar for their academic attachment as part of the requirements for their graduation from the academy.
According to a statement on Thursday by the Special Assistant to the Governor on Student Affairs, Joseph-Kelvin Enyam, the governor emphasised that the conduct and performance of the students would significantly shape the image and reputation of Cross River state at the national level.
The governor encouraged the students to remain focused and committed to excellence, noting that their training at the police academy places them in positions of responsibility where discipline and ethical conduct are paramount.
He said their achievements and professional standards would not only advance their personal careers but would also project Cross River positively within Nigeria’s security architecture.
Enyam further reassured the students of the administration’s continued commitment to the welfare and development of Cross River indigenes pursuing education in institutions across the country.
The governor noted that the support of students remains a priority of his administration’s People’s First agenda, adding that government would continue to provide assistance that would enable them succeed in their academic and professional pursuits.
In a demonstration of this commitment, Otu provided transport subsidy to support the students’ return to Kano for the continuation of their training at the Nigeria Police Academy.
He also expressed his intention to attend their passing-out parade later in the year, describing the students as ambassadors of the state whose success would contribute to national service and development.
The students, who are currently undergoing training at the academy, were in Calabar as part of the academic attachment component of their programme ahead of their graduation.
