The University of Calabar has announced plans to advertise all job vacancies publicly as part of efforts to promote transparency and fairness in its recruitment process.

The Vice Chancellor of the institution, Offiong Efanga Offiong, disclosed this while briefing journalists ahead of the university’s 38th convocation ceremony in Calabar.

Offiong said the new measure forms part of reforms introduced by the current administration to strengthen accountability and restore public confidence in the university’s employment process.

According to him, recruitment into the institution will henceforth be conducted strictly based on merit, areas of institutional need and other established criteria guiding employment in the university system.

He explained that vacancies would be publicly advertised in the media to give qualified candidates equal opportunity to apply.

“For job placement, employment will be conducted as the need arises. Advertisement will be placed in the media for all who are eligible to apply,” he said.

The vice chancellor added that the university would also obtain the necessary approvals from relevant government authorities before conducting any recruitment exercise.

He warned members of the public against dealing with individuals who claim to offer employment opportunities in the institution in exchange for money.

Offiong urged the public to report anyone demanding financial inducement for job placement or admission into the university.

“We will consider merit, areas of need and other relevant considerations that guide the employment process. Anyone who approaches you requesting money in exchange for admission or employment should be reported,” he said.

The vice chancellor noted that the reform was part of broader efforts by the management to address practices that have negatively affected the image of the institution in recent years.

He reaffirmed the commitment of the university administration to transparency, accountability and institutional reforms aimed at repositioning the institution for greater academic excellence.
