The Cross River State House of Assembly will hold a public hearing on Tuesday on two key bills aimed at overhauling the state’s tax system in line with Nigeria’s landmark Tax Law of 2025. The proposed legislations; the Cross River State Revenue Administration Bill, 2026 and the Cross River State Harmonized Taxes and Levies Bill, 2026, seek to align state practices with the federal reforms that consolidated multiple tax laws, eliminated overlaps, and improved revenue efficiency nationwide.
The hearing is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. prompt at the Mini Auditorium, Assembly Complex, Calabar. A notice issued by the Assistant Director of Legislative Matters, Mrs. Agatha Abang, on behalf of the Clerk of the House, called for broad stakeholder input to refine the bills before passage.
Stakeholders including professional bodies, business owners, civil society organizations, revenue administrators, and members of the public are invited to attend and make contributions. The exercise underscores the importance of public participation in domesticating the 2025 national tax reforms at the state level.
The bills are expected to provide a comprehensive framework for revenue administration, promote efficiency in tax collection, eliminate multiple taxation, and boost the state’s internally generated revenue for sustainable development.
This public hearing represents Cross River’s proactive steps toward full implementation of the tax reforms to position the state for improved fiscal sustainability and a more business-friendly environment.
