Gov Otu Opens Up on Crisis, Assures UNICROSS Students

…Governor promises vehicles, hospital upgrade, roads as ASUU strike lingers

 

CALABAR –Governor Bassey Otu has moved to douse tension at the University of Cross River State (UNICROSS), assuring students and management that his administration is fully committed to resolving the institution’s challenges NEGROIDHAVEN has garnered.

The governor gave the assurance on Tuesday during a meeting with the university’s management and the Students’ Union Government (SUG) at the Governor’s Office in Calabar.

…VC Leads Delegation, Thanks Governor

Leading the UNICROSS delegation, Vice Chancellor Prof. Francisca Bassey thanked Otu for granting audience and for his unwavering support for the university.

She said the visit was an opportunity for students to directly engage the governor on issues affecting the institution.

The SUG President, Comrade Favour Ogar, also appreciated the governor for his consistent support — particularly his appointment of Prof. Bassey and his swift intervention following a recent road accident involving UNICROSS students.

…Governor Makes Promises

Responding, Otu commended the VC and management for their dedication despite the challenges.

But the governor did not stop at praise — he made concrete promises.

He disclosed that the Vice Chancellor had already applied for additional vehicles for the university and assured the delegation that new vehicles would be provided soon.

On healthcare, Otu said he had been briefed on the condition of the University’s Medical Centre and promised to equip the facility to perform optimally.

He also acknowledged the need to improve the university’s road network and assured the delegation that his administration would look into the request.

…Governor to Meet Unions

Otu called on all stakeholders to make the necessary sacrifices for the growth of the university.

He announced that he would soon meet with the industrial unions in the institution as part of ongoing efforts to address their concerns.

…Closed-Door Meeting Ends on High Note

The UNICROSS delegation later went into a closed-door meeting with the governor and senior government officials.

When they emerged, the Vice Chancellor and members of the delegation were all smiles, a development many observers interpreted as positive.
