The Cross River State Consultative Forum has described the appointment of Governor Bassey Otu as the South-South Zonal Campaign Coordinator of the All Progressives Congress 2027 Presidential Campaign Council as a recognition of his growing political influence in the region NEGROIDHAVEN can report.
The forum, in a statement issued in Calabar on Sunday and signed by its Chairman, Barr. Eyo Nsa Ekpo, and Secretary, Dr. Julius Ochim Okputu, also congratulated Otu on the appointment, describing it as an acknowledgement of his contributions to the growth and consolidation of the APC in the South-South.
The statement followed the announcement of the composition of the APC 2027 Presidential Campaign Council, which also saw former Zamfara State Governor, Senator Abdulaziz Yari, appointed as Director-General of the campaign council.
The forum said Otu’s emergence as the zonal coordinator was a fitting recognition of what it described as his leadership role in strengthening the APC’s presence across the South-South.
According to the CRSCF, Otu, as the first elected APC governor in the South-South, has played a significant role in the party’s expansion and consolidation in the region.
The forum said, “As the first elected APC Governor in the South-South, Governor Otu has been a trailblazer and steadfast advocate for the party’s expansion and consolidation in the region.”
It further cited the governor’s involvement in APC gubernatorial campaign efforts in states including Imo and Edo, saying such roles had demonstrated his capacity as a mobiliser and bridge-builder within the party.
The forum said Otu’s leadership had also helped position Cross River as a reliable APC stronghold while contributing to what it described as greater alignment between the South-South and the Federal Government.
It added that the appointment was not only a recognition of Otu’s political standing but also an honour to Cross River State.
The CRSCF also congratulated Senator Florence Ita-Giwa, former senator representing Cross River South, on her appointment as a member of the Advisory Body to the Chairman of the campaign council.
It described Ita-Giwa, popularly known as Mama Bakassi, as a seasoned stateswoman whose legislative experience and longstanding advocacy for the people of Bakassi and the Niger Delta would be valuable to the campaign.
The forum equally congratulated Yari on his appointment as Director-General of the campaign council, describing him as an experienced politician with the organisational capacity to lead the campaign.
It said the appointments demonstrated the confidence of the APC leadership in the capacity and contributions of Cross Riverians and other progressive leaders to the party.
The forum assured President Bola Tinubu, the campaign council and its leadership of its support, adding that Cross River would work towards the success of the APC in the 2027 general elections.
