CALABAR — The Calabar South Local Government Council has commenced the construction of a police and anti-cultism station with barracks in Anantigha, as part of efforts to strengthen security and tackle criminal activities in the area NEGROIDHAVEN can report.
The ongoing project is expected to provide a dedicated operational base for the Police and Anti-Cultism Unit to combat cultism, kidnapping, violent crimes and other forms of criminality in Anantigha and adjoining communities.
The Commissioner for Local Government Affairs, Victor Felix Idem, disclosed this during an inspection of the project, where he commended the council for prioritising security infrastructure.
Idem, who expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of work, described the project as massive and timely, saying it reflected the implementation of Governor Bassey Otu‘s development agenda at the grassroots.
He said the facility would contribute to the state government’s efforts to create safer communities and curb violence and other social vices.
“This is indeed a massive and impressive project. It is gratifying to see the Executive Chairman translating the Governor’s development blueprint into tangible results.
“The vision of His Excellency is to ensure that our communities are safe and secure, and this project is a bold step towards curbing violence, kidnapping, cultism and other criminal activities within Calabar South,” Idem said.
The commissioner also commended the Executive Chairman of Calabar South Local Government Council, Pst. Hon. Patrick Archibong, for prioritising the welfare and security of residents.
He stressed that meaningful development could only thrive in an atmosphere of peace and public safety.
Earlier, Archibong explained that the facility was strategically conceived to strengthen the security architecture of Anantigha and neighbouring communities by providing security personnel with a modern operational base.
He said his administration was committed to complementing the state government’s security agenda through strategic infrastructure and other people-oriented projects designed to enhance public confidence and promote lasting peace.
Archibong expressed appreciation to Governor Otu for his support to local governments across the state and thanked the commissioner for inspecting the project.
The inspection was attended by members of the Calabar South Local Government Executive Council, including the Council Secretary, Head of Local Government Administration, Director-General of Services and Administration, Director of Finance and Supplies, supervisors, special advisers, personal assistants, directors and heads of departments.
The council said the project formed part of its broader efforts to deliver infrastructure and initiatives aimed at improving security and accelerating development across Calabar South.
