The Cross River State Government has intensified road construction across all senatorial districts under Governor Bassey Edet Otu, Emmanuel Etim, a member of the state’s climate change team, has said.

Etim spoke as a guest on The People’s First Administration 2.0, a radio programme aired on stations in Calabar.

He stated that infrastructure remained a major focus of the administration because it formed the bedrock of the economy. According to him, good roads enable farmers to move produce to markets and allow citizens to access workplaces, hospitals and other essential services.

Etim listed ongoing road works in Calabar South, Akpabuyo, Bakassi, Akamkpa, Biase, Ikom, Abi, Yakurr, Boki, Ogoja, Obudu and other areas. He noted that several of the roads, including inter-community links in Boki East and West, the two sections of Akamkpa, and routes around Mbok Junction to Monaya and Mbube in Ogoja, were being properly surfaced and provided with drainage for the first time in decades.

“The governor has gone to every senatorial district. Almost every local government is being touched,” he said, adding that resources were being applied systematically so that each local government received attention in phases.

Etim maintained that the projects were designed to make Cross River State more attractive for investment and to open up previously neglected communities.
