Calabar –The Member representing Calabar Municipality/Odukpani Federal Constituency, Rep. Bassey Akiba, has expressed profound sorrow over the fire incident that gutted the Akim Timber Market in Calabar Municipality.
Describing the incident as a tragic blow to the community, the federal lawmaker noted that the market has long served as a vital centre of commerce, enterprise, and livelihood for countless families in the area.
In a statement issued on Sunday, Rep. Akiba extended his heartfelt sympathy to all those affected, acknowledging the severe emotional and economic toll the disaster has inflicted on traders and their households.
He emphasized the need for preventive measures to avert future occurrences while urging the community to rally in support of the victims during this difficult period.
“Our hearts go out to every trader and family affected by this devastating fire,” Rep. Akiba said. “In this trying time, we stand with you, sharing in your pain and loss, and honouring your resilience.”
The cause of the inferno which happened on Friday is yet to be officially determined.
