LAGOS — Journalist, documentary filmmaker and entrepreneur, Obaji Akpet, has emerged as the Tony Elumelu Foundation Alumni Hub Lead for Lagos.
Akpet, a 2019 Tony Elumelu Foundation beneficiary, secured the highest number of votes in the 2026 Hub Lead elections.
The TEF Alumni Engagement Team, in a congratulatory message, said Akpet’s emergence reflected the confidence reposed in him by fellow alumni to represent and support the community.
Akpet, who is the founder of Africa Fixers Ltd, a Pan-African production logistics company operating across more than 40 African countries, said his tenure would focus on strengthening collaboration among TEF alumni and promoting entrepreneurship.
He said the leadership would seek to advance the principles of Africapitalism championed by TEF founder, Tony Elumelu, particularly through businesses that create value, generate wealth and provide employment opportunities.
Akpet said the Lagos Hub would work to translate the principles of self-reliance, long-term value creation and social impact into practical initiatives for members of the alumni community.
According to him, the hub will create opportunities for alumni to support one another through business partnerships, mentorship, knowledge sharing and access to markets.
“Lagos is the epicentre of the TEF Programme, and our responsibility as its alumni is not simply to celebrate what the Foundation has done for us, but to carry its ideals forward,” Akpet said.
He said his administration would also seek to increase the visibility of alumni-owned businesses and create platforms for business growth and knowledge exchange.
Akpet’s campaign was anchored on an eight-point agenda, which includes strengthening collaboration among alumni, increasing visibility for alumni businesses, creating platforms for business growth and knowledge exchange, and amplifying the achievements of TEF entrepreneurs.
He also called for unity among the alumni following the election, saying the contest should not divide members of the community.
“There is no victor and no vanquished. This was not a contest between enemies, but between fellow alumni who care deeply about the future of our community,” he said.
Akpet urged other contestants and members of the Lagos alumni community to contribute to the implementation of his agenda, stressing that the success of the new leadership would require collective participation.
The TEF Alumni Engagement Team said the new Hub Lead would play a key role in bringing alumni together, sharing opportunities, amplifying their voices and creating a more connected and active community.
Akpet, a journalist and documentary filmmaker, has contributed to international media organisations, including the BBC, Reuters, TRT World, Arte and Business Insider.
He said the new leadership would focus on translating its agenda into practical initiatives aimed at strengthening alumni businesses, deepening collaboration and increasing the contribution of the TEF community to Africa’s economic development.
