The University of Cross River State (UNICROSS) has finalised the selection of eight students for its foreign scholarship programme, with the beneficiaries expected to travel to Cyprus by the end of October 2026.

The Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Francisca Bassey, announced this during the institution’s 123rd Regular Senate Meeting held on Friday, October 16, 2026.

According to the Vice Chancellor, the first batch of the scholarship scheme comprises four students drawn from the Faculty of Engineering and four from the Faculty of Computing. She noted that the selection process had been concluded, and arrangements were in top gear to ensure the students depart for the European country before the end of the month.

Prof. Bassey explained that the foreign scholarship programme was designed to expose students to international academic standards, enhance their global competitiveness, and equip them with advanced skills in their respective fields. She added that the initiative aligns with the university’s broader vision of fostering academic excellence and producing graduates who can compete favourably on the global stage.

The announcement was met with commendation from members of the Senate, who applauded the management’s commitment to student development and internationalisation.

The Vice Chancellor charged the selected students to remain focused, uphold the good image of the institution, and maximise the opportunity to acquire knowledge that would benefit Cross River State and Nigeria at large upon their return.

The foreign scholarship scheme is part of a series of developmental initiatives approved by the UNICROSS Senate during the meeting, which also included the promotion of 16 academic staff, the approval of the 2026/2027 academic calendar, and the introduction of tutorial classes to boost students’ academic performance.
