The Cross River State Government has urged students from the state studying in tertiary institutions across the country to apply for available federal education support programmes, particularly the Nigerian Education Loan Fund.
The appeal comes as the Federal Government reportedly disbursed ₦38.93bn to 166 public tertiary institutions, including the University of Calabar and the University of Cross River State, under the Needs Assessment Revitalisation Fund.
The governor’s Special Assistant on Student Affairs, Hon. Jossph-Kelvin Enyam, made the appeal in a statement, urging eligible students to take advantage of interventions designed to ease the financial burden of higher education.
Enyam advised students to visit the official NELFUND website, [www.nelf.gov.ng](http://www.nelf.gov.ng), to confirm eligibility requirements, application procedures and deadlines.
He also urged them to submit applications only through authorised channels to avoid falling victim to fraudulent platforms.
The Special Assistant encouraged students to explore other opportunities, including scholarships, bursaries, entrepreneurship initiatives and skills acquisition programmes offered by government agencies.
He said timely access to reliable information could help more students benefit from programmes aimed at supporting their academic and personal development.
Meanwhile, the Federal Government’s reported ₦38.93bn disbursement to 166 public tertiary institutions is intended to address infrastructure gaps and improve teaching and learning facilities.
UNICAL and UNICROSS were listed among the beneficiary institutions.
However, details of the individual allocations to the two universities and the specific projects to be funded were not provided in the information available.
While NELFUND provides financial assistance to eligible students, the Needs Assessment Revitalisation Fund is intended to support institutional development, including infrastructure and learning facilities.
Enyam reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring that students from Cross River State were adequately informed about available educational opportunities.
