Ms Brenda Effiom of BrenCare Foundation will be celebrating her birthday tomorrow, 15 June with Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) at the Internally Displaced Camp (IDC) in Bakassi, Cross River, Nigeria NegroidHaven can say.
Incidentally, the birthday coincides with the International Day of the African Child. So, through her NGO, Ms Effiom will be presenting Day of the African Child, a programme themed —'Leave no Child behind.'
The programme will feature talks on drug abuse and mental health, HIV/AIDS, puberty, menstruation and hygiene, as well as medical check up, including distribution of clothes, shoes, sanitary pads, toothpaste/toothbrushes and other hygiene materials.
According to the website CHFI, 'This day has been set aside by the African Committee of Experts on the Rights and Welfare of the Child (ACERWC) in remembrance of the hundreds of school children that were killed during the Soweto Uprising on the 16th of June 1976.'
'During this day, about ten thousand black school children marched in protest against the poor quality of their education and demanding their right to be taught in their own language. Therefore, the day is used to raise awareness on issues that violate the rights of an African child', the website continues.
