The community within which the family residence of Senator Gershom Bassey is located, the facility which fell to the hands of hoodlums on Friday 23rd October and Saturday 24th October hiding under the guise of the #EndSARS protest in Calabar has sympathised with the affected lawmaker, the council chairperson, Esther Bassey, while at the same time calling on the state government to ensure that justice is served against the hoodlums.
The disposition of members of Nyong Edem/White House Community which is contained in a press statement signed by almost thirty persons was made available to NEGROIDHAVEN on Thursday.
Amongst other things, the release which alleged that the burglary and arson on the family residence, a financial house and other private investments was meted out by stranger elements, prayed that the menace never repeats itself.
The release reads accordingly, 'Members of Nyong Edem/White House Community frown at the boldness with which stranger elements vandalised, looted and left in ruins Senator Gershom Bassey's residence & other property, the Calabar South Local Government Council, First Bank Nig, PLC (Mayne Avenue Branch) among other places.
'We hope that the government of the day brings these hooligans to book using all measures.
'To our dear leader Distinguished Senator Gershom Bassey, we pray for you the fortitude to take the mishap as a step to greater heights.
'To Our Dear Amiable Chairman of Calabar South Local Government Area; Hon. Esther Bassey, we sympathise with you at the turn of event and pray this kind of menace never repeats itself.
'The people of this community have been thrown into fear and distress as the First Bank Nig, Plc which gave us the comfort of banking easily was also left in ruins. We don't know how you will all recover but we are consoled that you will recover.
'We pray that the terror of last weekend would as a matter of urgency create a better synergy between the community and its representatives.
'We shall rebuild our peaceful Calabar and Cross River State at large.
