Cross River State Commissioner for power, Mr Victor Agwu Monday in Calabar intervened in the ongoing disagreement between Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution, PHED and electricity consumers in the Calabar metropolis.

Agwu, alongside the Director-General, Cross River State Electrification Agency, SEA, Mr Stanley Nsemo, convened a meeting of stakeholders in the electricity cluster to resolve all the issues raised by consumers.

Speaking during the meeting, the Commissioner stated that complaints have been made to his office about the poor state of electricity supply in the state hence the need for the meeting.

Agwu stressed that as a responsible government, the Ayade administration will never shirk its duty to the citizens hence his office intervened to tackle the poor treatment consumers are getting from PHED.

On his part, Nsemo told the PHED delegation to the meeting that “most of the complaint we are getting is frustrating because we are hearing this is a deliberate act by PHED and not due to any faults from your installations, so it is pertinent to sit down with you and understand why this is happening”.

Responding, Collins Igwe who spoke on behalf of PHED apologised for the ugly experience electricity consumers in the state are encountering but decried the poor response to bill payments by them.

According to him, “PHED is a business and businesses need revenue to survive and stay afloat, therefore we encourage all our customers to pay their bills and promptly too to enable PHED to serve them better”.
