A fifth term House of Representatives member have been urged by his constituents to vie for the sixth term for the same office come 2023 general elections NEGROIDHAVEN can report authoritatively.

Political loyalists of the incumbent Member representing Akpabuyo/Bakassi/Calabar South Federal Constituency, Rt. Hon. (Apostle) Essien Ekpenyong Ayi, have purchased the People’s Democratic Party, PDP’s Declaration of Interest, and Normination Forms for the House of Representatives and presented same to him at his Calabar residence.

The Atimbo, Calabar residence of Rt. Hon. Ayi was filled to the brim with his acolytes and PDP faithfuls who were seen by our correspondent urging him to contest the House of Representatives seat come 2023’s general elections anticipated to hold across the country.

While urging him to recontest the ABC Federal Constituency seat on behalf of the crowd of loyalists, Hon. His words, ‘We, his friends sat and resolved that sir you will not return home until you train an alternative because the responsibility is very heavy. You cannot run away from us like that. So, we his friends said since you want to run away we will contribute our personal monies and buy the declaration of interest and nomination forms for you.

‘While some thought that you should not go for another term, we his friends resolved otherwise and said Sir, keep on doing the good works, keel your monies, we will buy the forms by ourselves.

‘On behalf of your PDP acolytes in Akpabuyo, Bakassi and Calabar South LGAs, we present this declaration of interest and nomination forms to you, urging you to recontest the elections in 2023.’

In his reaction, Rt. Hon. Ayi said he was confused as to the appropriate words to express himself on the show of support from the PDP members across the federal constituency. He observed that in previous years he was the one buying his party forms but, today his party forms are bought and presented to him for free.

His words, ‘PDP! In fact, I am short of words because I have never seen this kind of thing. In the last election… All the elections I have contested, I buy the forms, do my tax clearance, I do everything for myself… I do not know whether to say I am surprised, if someone does not love you, s/he won’t do anything of this nature. When I was notified of this meeting, little did I know it would amount to this, I thought it was the usual meeting to discuss the way forward in terms of politics and 2023.

‘I do not do so much of social media. But, I have been notified that a lot of things have been said especially on social networks; people have written so much nonsense about me. But, elections are not done on social networks. How many people in Ikot Edem Odo, Eneyo North and South, Esighi are on social networks? But, these are the real delegates and voters during the elections. Because they have seen what you have done. They have seen his you have touched them.

‘I will soon publish a compendium of my official activities in the House of Representatives in terms of bills, motions, in terms of projects, etc. If I reject this call for service, who else will fit into this shoe? I really want to thank you. Since you have reposed that kind of confidence in me, I will not fail you’.
