Speaking with our correspondent on Monday, the 14th of March, 2022, Hon Alloysius Ajom said that he was into the race to represent Akamkpa I State Constituency to be the voice for his people in order to bring democratic dividends to his people.
In his words, “Akamkpa LGA especially Akamkpa I is the highest in revenue generation in the state. It is only best by a local government in Rivers State in Nigeria. 90% of the industries located in Cross River State are in Akamkpa, yet we are the least in terms of government presence in projects and otherwise. This is not fair and this narrative has to change”
“I have carried in-depth studies of the things we need to do differently to attract democratic dividends to our people and we have certain thematic areas to tap from. For those who knows my family, it is on record that service runs in our blood. My father lived his life in total service to fatherland and this is what gives me the passion to serve because this same life of service runs in my blood. I am out to make a difference and be the voice of the voiceless”.
“Akamkpa I State Constituency has not been docile but for sometimes now, we have not hit the ground running. Could I attribute this to the manner of the emergence of our lawmakers? The likelihood is geometrically high. Your guess is as good as mine”.
“When I took the decision to contest, I asked God to show me a sign and bless me to help me foot my campaign. God did not only bless me but commissioned me for this task. The idea of even consulting fellow aspirants was through God’s inspiration, guidance and wisdom. You can imagine yourself being consulted by a fellow aspirant. This is what God has directed me to do”.
Hon. Alloysius Ajom, a House of Assembly hopeful for Akamkpa I State Constituency, Cross River State House of Assembly has reiterated his firm resolve to stand election in 2023 under the PDP. However, being aware of the hurdle of the party primary and other political intrigues, he has stated that he was ready for an open contest to allow the best candidate to emerge.
When asked about the issue of zoning, Ajom said that, the situation as seen currently is very funny. “I put it to you this way, Akamkpa I is made of the Ejagham and non Ejagham speaking wards of two and five respectively. The Ejagham had their turn and it is currently occupied by the non Ejagham speaking wards. Common sense and simple principle of fairness should be that in 2023, the Ejagham wards should have their turn. Let me explain further that within the last two elections that the non Ejagham speaking wards contested, no one from the Ejagham wards contested within the PDP. I speak of the PDP because that is my party and we respect zoning and power rotation”.
“And so, I have advised my brothers from the non Ejagham speaking communities to respect this pact and choose from among us the best candidate to represent Akamkpa. This is because they will be seen as speaking from both sides of their mouth if they want governorship from the south which is in support of zoning and power rotation, yet they are kicking against a similar situation in their state constituency”.
Given my track records, I am imminently qualified to represent Akamkpa I State Constituency in the next dispensation. I have been a student unionist, an activist, a lawmaker in Akamkpa Legislative Council, Chief of Protocol to the Chairman of my Local Government, Akamkpa, appointee of Governor Ben Ayade where I stepped down because I refused to defect to the APC. I know how government operates and where I can tap from to benefit my people. when people go into contest, they always put their best foot forward, I am that best foot for Akamkpa I State Constituency, come 2023.
