Mrs Agwu, wife of stricken star- comedian, Julius Agwu, claims that her reason for abandoning her broken and debilitatingly ill husband is that when the going was good and the actor blazed in glory, he habitually cavorted and frolicked with “side-chicks.” It was therefore not going to be “her portion” to abide by the bedside of a dying husband whose sexual piccadilloes, even if true, she condoned when the man swam in wealth and health. It’s a stunning and untenable new theory of marital fealty!
And it’s a theory that jars at the principle of causation. In Jurisprudence, i.e., the Philosophy of Law, if the event is so remote in time as not to stand in a reasonably proximate relation with the effect being alluded to, then, that event could not have been the causative element of the effect in question.
The moment Mrs Agwu lingered on in the marriage, and failed to desert within weeks, or at most months, of the discovery of her man’s philandering, and allowed a debilitating illness to supervene, which was not an outcome of that philandering, then Julius Agwu’s alleged philandering paled in remoteness, rendering the man’s illness and present impecuniosity the definite cause of desertion –and not his supposed infidelity.
The disease afflicting Julius Agwu is said to be brain tumor –a morbidity that certainly was not a consequence of his piccadilloes, not being sexually transmissible. So, what is the connection between “side chicks” and Julius Agwu’s present condition as to justify spousal abandonment in his moment of utmost helplessness? And is Julius Agwu expected to respond to charges of infidelity in his present state of abject debility?
This woman’s shameful conduct is a new low in banal heartlessness, and a cowardly uppercut to the very idea of marital forebearance. She has only given a dog a bad name just to hang it.
My prayer is that the Lord God who is the author of benevolence will forgive the stricken actor his sins and restore him to full health!
