The Senior Pastor of Message Point Assembly, Pastor Bassey Udosen, has endorsed former governor of Anambra, Mr Peter Obi, ahead of the 2023 presidential election.
Udosen, who spoke in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Calabar, promised to mobilise his congregation members nationwide, friends and family members to produce 3.5 million votes for Obi.
He told NAN that the decision to support the former Anambra governor was a collective one from members of his church nationwide after due research on the candidates that have emerged from all political parties.
According to him, Mr Obi displayed exceptional integrity, transparency, accountability, trust and financial discipline while he was governor of Anambra.
He said that a country like Nigeria that was in dire need of leadership to curb the myriads of security challenges and promote economic growth, needed a personality like Obi.
“Mr Obi is a man of integrity; he has been tested and trusted. It’s time for Nigerians to look beyond political parties and vote for someone who has the interest of the country at heart.
“Many years ago, Obi was a governor and he did well. He is honest and straight forward and that is why we have endorsed him for 2023.
“We have passed the message to all our congregation members in our churches spread across the country.
“We are also mobilising resources to achieve this aim because we are looking at mobilising 3.5million votes for Mr Obi during the election,” he said.
NAN reports that Mr Obi is the presidential candidate of Labour Party in the 2023 presidential election.
He told NAN that he had donated his church premises in Calabar to the Independent National Electoral Commission to use as a registration centre for the ongoing Permanent Voter Card.
The Cleric condemned the recent killing of worshippers in St. Francis Catholic Church in Owo, Ondo state.
He called on security agencies to ensure that the perpetrators were arrested and punished accordingly.
