BCS convokes Inter-Religious Mega Conference in C’River capital metropolis

An Inter-Religious Mega Conference which was convoked on Monday in Calabar the Cross River capital metropolis has been concluded.

The Conference which targeted at religious tolerance, unification of faith-based groups and traditional religions was convened by the Brotherhood of the Cross and Star, BCS.

Christ Universal General Fellowship, an arm of BCS anchored the event, which
drew participants from numerous denominational churches, philosophical organisations and religions as well as a good number of in-house Fellowships in the spiritual organisation.

Daily paper presentations were handled by denominational church leaders, religionists as well as erudite scholars from the Brotherhood fold.

Some of the discussants included a Professor of philosophy of religions and lecturer at department of religious studies, Protus Nathan Uzorma.

Others were HRM Barrister Evans Nwansi from Imo State, Sheykh Imaam Dr Salih Animashaun, one time chief Imam of Muslim Students Society.

Those from the Pentecostal church angle were founder of Heaven Concern Deliverance Ministry in Agbor, Delta State, Dr Amaechi Ogbeje as well as Apostle Chinedu Odenigbo amongst others.

One of the thought-provoking topics handled at the mega-conference was: “The Second Coming of Our Lord Jesus Christ: A Divine Promise Consummated or an Expectation?”, which question was given special attention.

The discussants shared views and beliefs about the Divine Promise of the Second Coming of Our Lord Jesus Christ whether it is still an expectation or a fulfilled prophecy.

They were united in their calls for peace and unity amongst many tribes, beliefs and races.

Speaking to Journalists, chairman of the International Organizing Committee, Archbishop Emmanuel A. Ekuri, himself an academic, explained that, “The week-long event featured three eventful days of intensive Evangelical Visitations to Royal fathers, top military personnel, government functionaries, partisans and 3-day Calabar Metropolitan City Crusade for people to avail themselves with the Everlasting Gospel delivered by Leader Olumba Olumba Obu

Ekuri explained that the Metropolitan City Crusade, was a special feature of meant to create an enabling platform for unification and religious unity and peace.

He described the mega Conference as one of the most elaborate and exceptionally eventful periods in the annals of the BCS Christ Universal General Fellowship (CUGF) which has impacted other faiths and philosophical organizations.

According to him, “the event was to lay a strong foundation for the rejuvenation of the integrative spirit of unity, tolerance, love and Brotherhood.

Ekuri explained that the theme of the event, “We are all we need, we are better together”, charged man on the imperatives of unity of all creations of God.

One of the dignitaries visited was the Obong of Calabar, Edidem Ekpo Okon Abasi Otu V. Remarking, the reverred king, represented by the chairman of Etuboms Traditional Council, HRM Bassey Okor Bassey Duke commended the spirit behind Inter-Religious Mega Conference. He called for unity and intensification of love between creations.

The Obong said the Palace was pleased that Brotherhood of the Cross and Star does not distance themselves from them, adding that they have helped to bolster peace and project Calabar.
