SUMMARY OF AN EMERGENCY GENERAL MEETING HELD AT THE NMA-CRS SECRETARIAT TODAY 20TH NOVEMBER 2022

The Nigerian Medical Association Cross River State (NMA-CRS) held an Emergency General Meeting (EGM) today, the 20th of November 2022 at the instance of the kidnap of 2 of her members Drs Omini and Egong on their way to the Northern part of the state along the Okomita – Uyanga axis of the Calabar Ikom Highway on the 18th of November, 2022.

Following the deliberations concerning the matter at hand, members unanimously agreed to:

1. The activation of the reviewed “Strike Protocol” which provides for a window of 48hours by NMA-CRS to government to secure the unconditional release of our kidnapped member/dependant failing which we shall have no other option than to embark on a TOTAL and INDEFINITE strike at the EGM, pending their release.

Hence NMA CRS has proceeded on a Total and Indefinite Strike, effective this evening, 20th November, 2022

2. That for the execution of an effective strike, a strike levy of N5,000 be deducted from members for the media engagements such as print/online media as well as press conferences.

3. That the strike is total and indefinite and as such any violation by an individual attracts a fine of N100,000 and a facility N1,000,000.

4. That Government should as a matter of urgency provide Security Patrols and Check points on that axis of the road where the risk is greater.

5. That as a matter of urgency, Government should commence the repairs of that section of the road to prevent attacks on vehicles who reduce their speed to be able to go through the bad roads.

NMA CRS is not oblivious of the hardship these decisions may cause to its members and the general public, hence we call on all relevant security agencies to ensure the timely and safe release of our abducted colleagues.

Thank you.
