Social status are not the reason why the marriages of celebrities fail.
This is the position of Diana-Mary Nsan a College researcher and teacher with the College of Education, COE Akampka.
Nsan held this opinion recently in disagreement with Agba Jalingo an activist and journalist who through his social media timeline said ‘Since I was born, celebrities have never been the standard for successful marriages. In fact, it is rather news, if their marriages succeed. It’s a norm for them to fail.’
For Nsan who described Jalingo as a journalist, it is not social status which crumbles the marriages of celebrities rather, it is irreconcilable personality traits.
Her words, ‘Don’t tag the failure of a marriage to anybody’s social status or social capital TBH it has absolutely nothing to do with it. The inadequacies that cause a marriage to fail are not hinged on social status.
‘Some anti social, broke and timid people carry around the most repulsive personalities, making them unable to stay married.
‘Celebrities only have theirs all out because of their public status. My brother leave am.’
Writing earlier, Nsan observed ‘Agba Jalingo what do you mean by …it is a norm for them to fail. You Mr Jalingo are a celebrity, you don’t know? You are a big celebrity, because you no sing music or act feem no mean say you are less of a celebrity.
‘Yet you have a fine marriage and you are with your seemingly stubborn personality, you pay attention to your wife and marriage.’
In the year 2022 alone, in Nigeria, over twelve celebrities called off their marriages. For instance, stand-up Comedian, Bright ‘Basketmouth’ Okpocha, in December 2022 announced a breakup with his wife, Elsie. After six years Funke Akindele the Nollywood star and her husband Abdulrasheed Bello (JJC) called off their marriage. Julius Agwu the veteran comedian and Ibiere his estranged wife ended their marriage. Paul Okoye of PSquare and Anita terminated their relationship after eight years. Dancer Korra Obidi discontinued her matrimonial relationship with Justin Dean. Oritsefemi and Nabila Fash after 5 years. Kafayat ‘Kaffy’ Shafau and Joseph Ameh brought their marriage to an end. After four years Gideon Okeke the former BBnaija housemate and Chidera Udueze brought their four years old marriage to an end. Saint Obi the popular Nollywood star and Lydia also ended their marital relationship. Kayode ‘Do2dtun’ Oladotun and former wife, Omotayo broke up their marital bond. Rapper John ‘Skales’ Njenga-Njeng and estranged better half Precious Hassanity who is a chef stopped their marriage. Sina Rambo son to a Nigerian governor and Korth brought their marriage to an end. Actor Kalu Ikeagwu and Ijeoma ended their six years old marital union. Yewande Adekoya and her former husband Abiodun Ishola Thomas ended their eight-year-old marriage. Jaruma and Ross Isabor discontinued their marriage as well.
However, football legend, Austin JJ Okocha celebrated his twenty four marriage anniversary to his hearthrob Nkechi.
