NEGROIDHAVEN has confirmed that the University of Calabar, UNICAL in Calabar, Cross River, a second generation tertiary educational institution in Nigeria, has acquired community radio broadcasting at 103.5 Frequency Modulation.

As at last week, UNICAL 103.5FM did a test run.

Its coverage spans the entity of the university community as well as neighbouring streets in the state capital including Uwanse, Goldie, and some part of Mayne Avenue, Mount Zion, then IBB Way, Ndidem Usang Iso Road (popularly called Marian Road), Edim Otop and part of Atimbo.

According to one Nsikak Ibatt a presenter and content creator, ‘UNICAL Radio International is a mass media information and communication technology solution for educational and human development. It is the pivotal pillar and innovative piece of the puzzle in the digital education transformation plan of the university of Calabar and offers the following benefits;

‘1. Provide easy, co-effective access to digital learning remotely or on campus.

2. Afford economically challenge students (who lack personal electronic, end-user devices) the opportunity to productively and profitably engage in digital education.

3. Relieve the burden on university infrastructure by enabling remote education engagement.

4. Ameliorates the stress on lecturers and students who often have to endure uncomfortable lecture venues or public address systems.’
