Information reaching out news desk suggests that the governor of Cross River state has assented to the 2009 Child Rights Law amendment bill, 2023.

This information was disclosed recently by James Ibor a child’s right activist in Calabar the Cross River state capital metropolis.

According to the newly assented law, it is expressly criminal to brand a child a witch/wizard or claim to have the power to exorcise witchcraft.

Corporal punishment in schools is similarly proscribed in the state. Public facilities must report all cases of child abuse, especially sexual assault. According to Ibor, ‘Lots of senseless inhibitions placed on fostering and adoption were removed.’
