UNICAL VC seeks police cooperation on campus security

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar, Prof. Florence Banku Obi, has made an appeal to the Cross River State Police Command to intensify more efforts aimed at the effective policing of the institution NEGROIDHAVEN has garnered.

The Vice Chancellor made the appeal when she led the Management Team of the University of Calabar on a courtesy call on the Commissioner of Police, Cross River State Command, CP Gyogon Augustine Grimah in his office.

Prof. Obi said the security partnership that already exist between the University and the State Police Command has been vibrant, fruitful, laudable and rewarding and would like to see it taken to a higher level.

She showered praise on the leadership and men of the command who have over the years worked tirelessly in collaboration with the Internal Security Unit of the institution to enforce peace and maintenance of order on campus.

While acknowledging that the Command is already overtaxed and working very hard, she implored them through the office of the CP to do all within its reach to ensure that the bond is not broken.

In his response, the Commissioner of Police lauded the management of the institution over the visit, describing the University as a veritable partner in ensuring that peace is maintained in not just the campus but society at large.

The CP who said his men were not sleeping but working very hard, called on members of the public with valuable information on criminal activities and hideouts in the state not to hesitate to approach the Command.

The Vice Chancellor was accompanied in the visit by the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic, Prof. Angela Oyo-Ita, Deputy Vice Chancellor, Research, Linkages & Collaborations, Prof. Peter Okafor, Registrar, Mr Gabriel Egbe, Bursar, Mr Joseph Odum , Librarian, Prof. Aniebiet Ntui and the Chief Security Officer, Capt. Augustine Bisong (Rtd).
