The Deputy Governor of Cross River State, Rt. Hon. Peter Odey, has extended his heartfelt condolences to Senator Gershom Bassey on the tragic loss of his niece, Gloria Ekaete Anaebonam (Nee Bassey).

In a touching condolence letter addressed to Senator Bassey, Rt. Hon. Odey conveyed his deepest sympathies to the Senator, acknowledging the pain of losing a beloved family member, especially one so young. He remarked that such losses leave us with unanswerable questions about the mysteries of life and the fleeting nature of our existence on this earth.

During this difficult time, Rt. Hon. Peter Odey offered words of comfort, saying, “In moments like these, words are insufficient to convey the depth of my sympathies. Having experienced a similar loss, I can only imagine the profound pain your family is enduring.” He wished Senator Bassey and his family the strength to find solace in the memories of their cherished niece, noting, “May her brief time on this earth, though short, remain a precious gift that touched the lives of those around her.”

The Deputy Governor extended his prayers, hoping that Senator Bassey would turn to the Almighty God for comfort and understanding as he navigates the challenging path of grief and healing. He encouraged Senator Bassey to find solace in the belief that the love and light brought by his niece will continue to shine, even in her absence.

Rt. Hon. Peter Odey joined the family in a memorial mass held on Friday, 21st September 2023, at the Presbyterian Church, Wuse II. The service, attended by prominent Cross Riverians and dignitaries, including former Governor Senator Liyel Imoke, Senator Eteng Jones Williams, Senator Jarigbe Agom, Senator Bassey Ewa, Barr. Nella Andem (SAN), and many others, focused on contemplating eternity and the journey beyond this life.

The event concluded with heartfelt prayers for the grieving family.
