The Office of the State Security Adviser – South, extends its commendation to the vigilant residents of Nyahasang community in Cross River state. Their swift and brave response played a pivotal role in foiling a kidnapping attempt, underscoring the importance of collective security efforts.

On Saturday, November 4, 2023, Nyahasang community residents in Calabar demonstrated unwavering determination and responsibility when they thwarted a kidnapping incident in their vicinity. Their collective action not only prevented a criminal act but also led to the apprehension of suspects involved in this heinous act.

It is reassuring to witness such proactive measures to counter criminal activities, which are in line with the “Peace and Security Tour” campaign that we have been conducting throughout the southern senatorial district of the state. It reaffirms the vital role that every individual and community can play in ensuring the safety and well-being of our fellow citizens.

We also acknowledge and applaud the swift response of the Police tactical unit, Anti-Cultism and Kidnapping Squad (Dragon Squad), officers from the Federal Housing Police Division including the DPOs of Federal Housing Estate, Itu (in local government council in Akwa Ibom state), Odukpani, Akamkpa Police Station, security vigilante group of Matthias Ojie Street and residents, and the brave driver who knocked one of the kidnappers. Their coordinated efforts alongside the community’s assistance were crucial in ensuring the safe rescue of the victim and the arrest of suspects.

We also thank the victim’s daughter, who promptly alerted the authorities, allowing for a rapid response to the situation. Such cooperation between the public and law enforcement agencies is an exemplar of the effectiveness of our collective fight against criminal elements in Cross River State.

This incident and the subsequent response validate our unwavering commitment to security and the protection of our beloved state. Criminals must know that they will find no refuge in Cross River, and their activities will not be tolerated.

Our gratitude goes out to Nyahasang community, the Cross River State Police Command, and all parties involved in the successful operation. Together, we will continue to work diligently to ensure the safety and security of all residents in the State.

This response exemplifies the spirit of unity and shared responsibility in our commitment to security and the safeguarding of lives and property. Nyahasang community’s actions are a beacon of hope, setting a standard for other communities in the state to follow.
