… Advocates Improved Safety Measures on Odukpani-Itu-Ikot Ekpene Federal Highway

 

Calabar – The Cross River South Consultative Forum, a coalition of community leaders, has voiced concerns over the delayed construction of the Odukpani-Itu-Ikot Ekpene Federal Highway, particularly the section assigned to SERMATECH NIGERIA LIMITED. The Forum, comprising local personalities and representatives, has called for urgent government intervention to address the challenges faced by commuters NEGROIDHAVEN has confirmed.

The Forum, while highlighting the need for immediate attention to safety concerns on the said Federal Highway, drew the notice of the Minister of Works, Dr. David Umahi, to challenges faced by commuters due to the slow progress and potential hazards on the road.

The community leaders comprising Eyo Nsa Ekpo Esq., Hon Joseph E. Etene Esq., Prof Emmanuel Eyo Esq, Hon Victor Okon, Sir Maurice Effiwatt, Hon. Ada Charles Egwu, Rev James Anam, and Hon Ani Esin, central figures in the Forum also commended the Executive Governor of Cross River state, Senator Bassey Otu, for initiating immediate palliative measures to alleviate the difficulties faced by road users. The Forum highlighted the impact on local communities and the importance of expediting the construction to ensure safe and accessible transportation.

Expressing worry over trucks and trailers causing accidents and blocking the road, the Forum appreciated the efforts of the Executive Governor of Cross River State, Sen. Otu, for initiating palliative work to alleviate the suffering of road users.

While avoiding direct accusations, the Forum emphasized the urgency of addressing safety issues on the highway and suggested considering alternative measures to ensure the well-being of the community.

Their words read in part, “Let us state here unequivocally that we are not unaware of the vested interest of some failed politicians and unpatriotic Cross Riverians who are the powers behind SERMATECH NIG LTD. Foisting this incompetent indigenous construction company on the Federal Government. These persons are responsible for the tears Nigerians are shedding on that road on a daily basis. Nigerians are watching you.”
