At the Collation Centre on Sunday, February 4, 2024, Senator Asuquo Ekpenyong expressed gratitude to His Excellency, Senator Bassey Edet Otu, the Party, and the Stakeholders of Biase/Akamkpa Federal Constituency for their unwavering support in securing a decisive victory for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the rerun election held on February 3, 2024 NEGROIDHAVEN can report authoritatively.

The final results revealed a triumphant win for the APC candidate, Hon. Emil Inyang, who garnered 15,930 votes against the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) 12,417 votes. This victory solidifies the APC’s position in the Akamkpa/Biase Federal Constituency.

Before the rerun elections, the APC entered the contest with a lead of 2400 votes. Following the rerun, the margins expanded by over 1200 votes across the 19 polling units, further consolidating their electoral dominance.

Hon. Emil Inyang expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support and conveyed his commitment to serving the people of Akamkpa/Biase Federal Constituency diligently.

The electoral journey leading to this victory had its origins in the 2023 election petition tribunal decision in Calabar, which nullified the victory and directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to reclaim the Certificate of Return from the then House of Representatives Member, Onun Emil Inyang. The tribunal’s ruling mandated a rerun specifically in the 19 affected polling units.

The subsequent affirmation by the Appeal Court in Lagos upheld the Election Petition Tribunal’s decision, leading to the conduct of a supplementary poll on Saturday, February 3, 2024. INEC’s announcement at the Biase Local Government Council Headquarters collation center officially declared Hon. Emil Inyang as the winner of the supplementary election.
