The Executive Chairman of Bakassi Local Government Area, Hon. Effiong Etim Okon, has taken steps to enhance governance and financial accountability with the constitution of two key committees: the Transition/Asset Recovery and Legality of Occupants of Government Property Committee, and the Revenue Review Committee NEGROIDHAVEN has confirmed.
In a press release dated November 20, 2024, Hon. Okon announced the appointments of respected individuals to these committees, tasked with mandates aimed at strengthening institutional frameworks and maximizing revenue collection for the local government.
Transition/Asset Recovery and Legality of Occupants of Government Property Committee The 23-member committee is chaired by AIG Enene Okon (Rtd), with Rt. Hon. (Barr.) Joseph Etene serving as the Alternate Chairman. The committee has been charged with:
– Determining the legal status of government institutions and property within Bakassi Local Government Area.
– Evaluating the conditions of moveable and immovable government assets.
– Reviewing the staffing strength of the council, particularly technical and specialized roles.
– Recovering council property held illegally.
The committee is expected to submit its report within three weeks and will be inaugurated on Tuesday, November 26, 2024, at the Bakassi Local Government Secretariat.
Revenue Review Committee
In response to the need for improved revenue generation, the Bakassi Local Government Council also constituted a five-member Revenue Review Committee chaired by Victor Okon. The committee includes Chief Maurice Efio-Ase, Mr. Samuel Ekpenyong, the Director General of Services and Administration, and Effiom Ita as Secretary.
The committee’s mandate includes:
– Reviewing revenue streams accruing to the local government.
– Ensuring transparency and competency in revenue collection.
– Identifying and managing all revenue sources effectively.
The council emphasized the importance of ensuring the efficient management of resources, noting that the committee’s work begins immediately.
