As part of efforts to tackle unemployment and promote entrepreneurship, the Executive Chairman of Yakurr Local Government Area, Hon. Yibala Inyang, on Wednesday rolled out a skills acquisition and empowerment initiative aimed at equipping constituents with valuable vocational and digital skills NEGROIDHAVEN can report.
The initiative, which underscores the chairman’s commitment to economic empowerment, provides participants with hands-on training in various fields, including fashion design with ICT applications, solar installation, professional barbing, content creation, graphic design, and bulk SMS services.
Speaking at the launch today, Hon. Inyang emphasized the importance of skills development in addressing societal challenges such as unemployment, youth restiveness, cultism, and drug abuse. He noted that the initiative aligns with the “People’s First” mantra of Governor Bassey Edet Otu’s administration, which prioritizes human capital development.
“At the end of the two-week training, beneficiaries will not only have acquired essential skills but will also receive empowerment materials such as sewing machines, solar kits, barbing equipment, and digital devices,” Inyang stated. “This will enable them to generate sustainable income and enhance their livelihoods.”
The initiative has been widely commended as a strategic move to create opportunities for self-reliance and economic growth in Yakurr, reinforcing the council’s commitment to fostering innovation and productivity among its people.
