UGEP, C/River – A prominent youth advocacy group has publicly endorsed the emergence of Dr. Okimba Peter Etaba as the preferred candidate for the position of Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, Ugep, while commending state and institutional leaders for overseeing a transparent selection process NEGROIDHAVEN can report.
In a statement issued on Friday, the Obubra Chapter of the Concerned Youth for Good Governance and Development praised what it described as a merit-based and credible procedure that led to Dr. Etaba’s selection.
The group specifically lauded Cross River state hovernor, Senator Prince Bassey Otu, for “ensuring an atmosphere that allows competence to thrive and due process to prevail.”
“By enabling a free, fair, and transparent selection process, the Governor has once again reinforced his administration’s commitment to people-centred governance and respect for established procedures,” the statement read.
The youth coalition also commended the Governing Council of the Federal Polytechnic, Ugep, chaired by Senator Florence Ita-Giwa, for its adherence to guidelines and institutional integrity.
“The Council’s conduct of a credible selection process reflects institutional maturity and a deep sense of responsibility,” the statement noted.
According to the group, Dr. Etaba’s emergence is based on his “qualification, performance, and credibility,” citing his academic background and administrative capacity as key factors. They also highlighted the symbolic importance of the potential appointment for Obubra Local Government Area, which they said has historically been underrepresented in strategic state positions.
“His selection therefore represents not just merit rewarded, but inclusion advanced—an affirmation that every part of the state belongs and matters,” the statement added.
The group concluded with a call to action, urging the Governing Council to finalize the process by formally transmitting Dr. Etaba’s name through the Federal Ministry of Education to the Presidency for final approval and inauguration.
“Completing this process will further strengthen public trust and preserve the credibility of all parties involved,” the statement emphasized.
The opinion was issued solely by the Obubra Chapter of Concerned Youth for Good Governance and Development and carries a caveat stating it does not reflect the views of any government institution, media house, or political party.
