Bakassi — A State House of Assembly aspirant for Bakassi Constituency, Rt. Hon. Grace Etim Bassey, has declared her readiness to contest in the forthcoming elections, stating that she is fully prepared for the responsibilities of legislative office.
Bassey made the declaration while addressing supporters in Bakassi Local Government Area, where she formally signaled her intention to join the race for the state legislature.
“I am physically, mentally, spiritually and financially fit to stand for election,” she said, emphasizing her preparedness across multiple dimensions required for effective representation.
The aspirant noted that the political season had already begun, pointing to voter registration and increased interest among citizens seeking elective positions. She added that her decision to contest was driven by a desire to contribute more directly to governance and development in Bakassi.
Bassey, an incumbent councillor, said her experience in local government has equipped her with practical knowledge of grassroots challenges, which she intends to bring to the legislative process.
The lawmaker who doubles as leader of the 7th Bakassi Legislative Assembly, also encouraged other interested individuals to participate in the democratic process, stressing that elections provide an opportunity for citizens to shape leadership and policy direction.
Her declaration comes amid growing political activity across Cross River state, as aspirants across party lines continue to announce their ambitions and mobilise support ahead of the next general elections.
Observers say such early declarations may signal an increasingly competitive race in the lead-up to party primaries and the eventual polls.
