CALABAR – The Cross River Internal Revenue Service (CRIRS) has announced a state-wide enforcement exercise for the recovery of all outstanding Personal Income Tax liabilities and related levies, warning that businesses and individuals who fail to settle their debts face the risk of having their assets distrained.
In a Public Service Announcement dated 18th June 2026, the Executive Chairman of the CRIRS, Prince Edwin Okon, Ph.D., notified the general public that the enforcement exercise would commence on Monday, 22nd June 2026.
“All individuals and business owners are by this notice advised to settle all outstanding tax liabilities before the said date to avoid distrain on their businesses,” the statement read.
The announcement, which was signed by Prince Edwin Okon, Ph.D., Executive Chairman of the agency, provides taxpayers with a five-day window to comply before enforcement officers begin recovery actions across the state.
The CRIRS disclosed that payment can be made using relevant revenue codes to designated government accounts or through any of the approved channels, including the online payment platform, www.crossriverpay.com.
The agency also directed taxpayers to visit any of its tax offices nearest to them or contact the CRIRS help desk on 08066276829 or 08129336969 for further inquiries.
The announcement concluded with a public appeal: “Be a proud Taxpayer, think Cross River!”
As of the time of this report, it remains unclear how many individuals and businesses are affected or the total value of outstanding tax liabilities owed to the state government.
