The management of the University of Cross River State (UNICROSS) has reaffirmed its commitment to faith-centred leadership and institutional governance, emphasizing the role of prayer and spiritual values in promoting peace, stability, and progress within the university community NEGROIDHAVEN can report.
The Vice Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Francisca Bassey, stated this on Tuesday during the monthly prayer and praise session held at the Vice Chancellor’s Conference Room in Calabar.
Addressing members of staff and other participants at the gathering, Prof. Bassey stressed the importance of maintaining a close relationship with God and continually entrusting the affairs of the university to divine guidance through regular corporate prayers.
She noted that prayer has remained a vital pillar in the administration of the institution, helping to sustain its leadership, workforce, students, and stakeholders amid evolving challenges in the education sector.
The Vice Chancellor further urged members of the university community to reflect godly values in their daily conduct and interactions, reminding them that humanity was created in the image and likeness of God and should therefore uphold principles that promote harmony, integrity, and excellence.
As part of the programme, Prof. Bassey led participants in a session of praise and worship and reaffirmed the university’s resolve to continue seeking God’s direction in its pursuit of academic excellence and institutional development.
Special prayers were offered for the Governor of Cross River State, Senator Bassey Edet Otu, while thanksgiving prayers were also said for the Deputy Governor, Dr. Peter Odey, in celebration of his birthday.
Earlier, the Registrar of the university, Dr. Catherine Osai, led prayers of thanksgiving, expressing gratitude to God for His protection, guidance, and the prevailing peace across all campuses of the institution.
Delivering a sermon titled “The Propellant for God’s Visitation,” the Guest Minister, Pastor Ayang Umoren of God Wonders Service, underscored the importance of prayer, holiness, thanksgiving, unity, and a sincere desire for God as prerequisites for divine intervention and transformation.
Drawing his message from James 4:8, the cleric encouraged members of staff to uphold integrity and professionalism in the discharge of their responsibilities, warning against actions capable of undermining societal values and institutional credibility.
He described UNICROSS as “God’s home” and expressed confidence in the leadership of the Vice Chancellor, stating that the institution was well positioned to continue promoting sound ethical standards and producing graduates capable of making meaningful contributions to society.
The prayer session concluded with intercessions for the university, its management, staff, students, and stakeholders.
Participants at the event described the gathering as spiritually enriching and impactful, noting that the monthly prayer sessions have become an important platform for spiritual renewal, encouragement, and collective reflection on the university’s mission and vision.
