The member representing Calabar Municipality State Constituency in the Cross River State House of Assembly, Hon. Stanley Bassey Okon Nsemo, has raised an urgent alarm over the flooding incident plaguing residents of Akai Efa in Calabar Municipality.
Nsemo moved a matter of urgent public importance on the floor of the Assembly, calling the attention of the State Emergency Management Agency, the National Emergency Management Agency, and the Nigeria Erosion and Watershed Management Project to the plight of the affected community.
The lawmaker narrated the ordeal of residents, explaining that the flood had submerged houses, churches and ponds, thereby hindering economic activities in the area.
In his prayer, Nsemo asked the House to mandate the relevant agencies to take temporary measures to mitigate the suffering of Akai Efa residents while a permanent solution is being sought to correct the inundation.
The motion reflects growing concern over the recurring flooding in Calabar Municipality, which has displaced residents and destroyed property in several communities in recent months.
The House is expected to communicate its resolution to SEMA, NEMA and NEWMAP for immediate action.
