The Cross River State Carnival Commission has commenced the training of ad-hoc staff ahead of the 2026 Carnival Calabar.

Speaking on behalf of the Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture at the training session, the Chief of Staff to the commissioner, Abel Aria, urged the personnel to discharge their duties with the highest level of professionalism.

Aria specifically charged the ad-hoc staff to avoid the consumption of alcohol while carrying out crowd control and other assigned responsibilities during the carnival.

He emphasised that the success of the annual event depended largely on the discipline, alertness and professionalism of those tasked with managing the crowds and ensuring order.

Aria, an APC stakeholder in Boki Local Government Area and Ward Relations Officer of Buentsebe Ward, is a graduate of Education and Political Science from the University of Calabar. He previously served as Special Assistant on Public Transport to a former governor of the state and as Personal Assistant to the Commissioner for Tourism.

Carnival Calabar remains one of Nigeria’s foremost cultural festivals, drawing thousands of participants and tourists to the state capital every December.
