Yesterday one of my numerous contacts on Whatsapp sent to me a message which I want to share with my friends on face book. My friend wrote thus: "Sir I noticed you have greatly reduced the Ayade bashing, why?

Ever since GMB came to Calabar you have toned down your criticism "I was really taken aback but I managed to rallied my friend thus: "Why do you think so? I wrote against his appointment of 28 commissioners just last week. I
do not think so". Not yet persuaded my friend promptly and tensely shot back: "How about the Nepotism? But this time, I couldn't say anything
because my friend was perfectly right.

I have said nothing about the alleged nepotism being practiced
by Governor Ayade because the brilliant Paul Ifere had handled the matter admirably in this
characteristic velvety and breezily style, I think early this week. So I adopt Paul Ifere's essay on the subject matter as my own position.

We must put an end to nepotism and cronyism that was foisted on
our hapless State by Liyel Imoke and which Governor Ayade is seemingly adopting. Appointments
must be based on competence and merit not necessarily where somebody comes. Contract award must also be based on competitive bidding and open tender.

Cronyism and nepotism are at
variance with democratic values and culture.
