Nigeria Communication Commission who recently fined Nigeria largest network coverage provider 'MTN Nigeria' N1.4trillion for non compliance in the deactivation of improper registered SIM cards, have received a letter of apology from MTN Nigeria, as they pleaded for leniency according to an undisclosed source of NCC.

According to Vanguard Newspaper, an undisclosed source at the NCC told Vanguard on condition of anonymity that the commission was in receipt of MTN’s apology letter but however added that the power to decide what is to be done at the moment was no longer in NCC’s hands.

According to the source, ” I can confirm that the commission has received an official letter from MTN admitting its guilt and pleading for leniency. However, the power to grant the leniency is no longer entirely on NCC’s hands but that of the presidency. But there are also indications that the Federal Government may ask us to reduce the fine to an appreciable level.

“If MTN had complied with several directives by the NCC it wouldn’t have been in this mess but I hope they learn their lessons from this. Nigeria is its biggest market. It was surprising that they didn’t anticipate that if things get wrong here, it could affect their other markets. Now, it is alleged that it has lost more than $2.7bn from people migrating from its shares to others since this incident. Its a lesson they should not allow to recur” he added.

If these facts are anything to go by, then it could be one of the reasons for Mtn Nigeria illegitimacy when it comes to unlawful indiscriminate charging and deducting of airtime on their loyal customers.

Few months ago, folks and family members close to me were complaining of their airtime been deducted and when inquires are been made from MTN customers care assistance services, they will be told they subscribed to a package they know virtually nothing about.

The twisting Kaleidoscope around same time shifted to my very own Mtn line. I was charged at random and indiscriminately for caller tunes I knew nothing about, and never subscribed for. Recently, week after week am been charged of daily tips on products I never subscribed and knew nothing about. Am even scared of loading card because I maybe told my airtime has been deducted for weekly daily tips and products I know nothing about.

It leaves me with no choice but to deduce that, MTN Nigeria is engaged in thievery, as it's criminal for them to engage with such means of deductions and charges.

MTN Nigeria is losing their legitimacy to their loyal customers. It's high time they start overhauling their personnel's responsible for their software programming, for effective delivery and maximum satisfaction to their loyal customers.

Or is it how they choose to pay back or say thank you to their patriotic customers after almost 15 years of loyalty and patronage to their products and services?

MTN, everywhere we go!
