HEALTH NEWS: Schools of Nursing Ready for Accreditation -CRS Commissioner for Health

It was recently garnered by our health desk that Cross River State Government has met the compliant level of Nursing & Midwifery Council of Nigeria to the kick off of the schools of Nursing and Midwifery that lost its accreditation before the end of the year.

Dr. Inyang Asibong, Commissioner for Health, Cross River State dropped the hint shortly after inspecting facilities in the state schools of Nursing and Midwifery along with some management staff of the schools.

Dr. Asibong informed that despite the lean resources of the state, the state Governor, His Excellency Senator Prof. Benedict Ayade has demonstrated courage to ensure schools of Nursing and Midwifery are accredited before the end of the year.

In her words, 'To a vision-driven Governor, His Excellency, Senator Prof. Benedict Ayade has met the compliant level of the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria with the set rules, regulations and modalities to meet the best practices that will enhance best delivery of services to humanity".
Dr. Asibong added that "Devotion to produce excellent health care leaders and supportive learning environments remains a focal point of His Excellency, Senator Prof Benedict Ayade administration.'

According to the Personal Assistant-Media & Publicity, Coco-bassey Esu, 'Earlier before the inspection of the schools of Nursing and Midwifery, the Executives of National Association of Nigeria Nurses And Midwives (NANNM) Cross River State branch led by Comr.
Ojong Ogar paid a courtesy call to congratulate and intimate the honorable commissioner for health of the issues affecting the Nursing profession in the state'.

He further added that, 'Comr. Ojong Ogar appreciated Gov. Ben Ayade for the timely payment of worker's salary and also calls for the review of the law establishing only two schools of Nursing and Midwifery in the state and to bring positive revolutionary change in terms of upward review of salary for Nurses to curtail exodus of Nurses from state owned hospitals to federal hospitals, payment of balanced 30% CONHESS to Nurses, speedy meeting of Nursing and Midwifery Council standard for accreditation of schools of Nursing and Midwifery, sponsoring of Nurses for specialist programs to meet up quality health care delivery among others'.

Also speaking after the inspection of the schools of Nursing and Midwifery, the Director of Nursing Services, Cross River State, Barr. (Mrs.) Christy Essien Essien commended the efforts of the state Government for the well-laid school with adequate curricular structure, full staff compliment and well-equipped laboratories which will ensure each graduate of the school will maximize his or her own career goal.
