Ifere Paul, the foremost critic of the governor of CRS, Sen. Prof. Ben Ayade has successfully raised the sum of N6.5 million for the kidney transplant of an Obudu-born Cross Riverian, Pius Ileti.
Pius Ileti is the former driver of Barr. Venatius Ikem, the erstwhile National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) and former Commissioner for Works in CRS, who was diagnosed with kidney failure some time last year(2015) about when he returned from the nation's capital, Abuja, during a trip to get campaign materials from the sibling of Prince Goddy Jedy Agba, a 2015 general elections gubernatorial aspirant. Since then, until now, Ileti has been on dialysis which cost him nothing less than N47,000 to keep him alive a week.
On the 9th of August 2015, Ifere Paul created the Facebook group 'Donate for Pius Ileti' in an effort to curry donations from the sympathetic public in view of Ileti's kidney transplant which medical practitioners reported would cost N7 million. On the 10th of August 2015, Ifere Paul addressed an open letter to Governor Ben Ayade titled: 'A Plea for Dying Ileti' soliciting the support of His Excellency. He particularly highlighted the fact that Gov. Ayade had donated the sum of N1 million to Pius Ileti on 23 April 2015.
It may interest you to know that Paul's fundraising adventure which he labels 'the greatest task in my life' has incited so much reaction ranging from Dr. Mrs. Betta Edu, Special Adviser to the Governor of CRS on Community and Primary Healthcare, Emmanuel Ulayi, media aide to Governor Ben Ayade, Ukorebi Ita, Mercy Agbama, Kpans B. Kpans, and a host of others who donated heartily to the wellbeing of Ileti's health.
On Thursday 23rd January 2016, Ifere Paul in a Facebook post titled 'God is Good' announced that he 'has secured 6.5 million Naira donations from well meaning Nigerians to take up the treatment of Pius Ileti'.
This present press outfit wishes to employ this medium to commend Ifere Paul the critic for this humanitarian gesture, as well as all those well-meaning Nigerians who heeded Paul's plea. I am particularly inspired by this gestures from all of you especially knowing that Ifere Paul had actually not met Pius Ileti before the health challenge.
It is for this singular gesture and similar but persistent gestures of criticisms against an ailing government that I, on behalf of Negroid Haven, do vote you as 'Cross River Man of the Year for 2015'.
