Sequel to the elevation of Idris Kpotun Ibrahim to the exalted rank of Inspector-General of the Nigerian Police Force (NPF), on Friday 1st July the the Police Service Commission approved the retirement of top brass police officers of the rank of Assistant Inspector General of Police. There were 21 of them including Etung, Cross River-born AIG Mbu Joseph Mbu. What follows is an excerpt of his a cross section of Cross Riverians reacted to the forced retirement of the brave Police officer:

Princewill Odidi
Remember those days of impunity when AIG Mbu disrespected the office of an elected Governor in Rivers state and even sent his boys to blockade the governor route. Power is so transient. Always remember the powerless because someday they may be the powerful

On Policeman Mbu's retirement

You guys should understand the implication of Policeman Mbu's premature retirement.

Justice Karibi Whyte was used to kill Ken Saro Wiwa….with the promise that they will make him the Chief Justice if Nigeria…then they dumped him after.

Mbu was promised th I G…position after doing those dirty jobs…..just  see what they have done to him…

He who allows his head to be used to breat the coconut, may not live long enough to drink water from the coconut…not to talk about eating the coconut….

He who rides the tiger, will one day see himself in the belly of the tiger.

A word is good enough for the wise.

Always act with the end in mind.

Mbu did you see this day coming? You didn't have to personalize the Police Force,  now you have been forced to go on retirment.  Tomorrow you start life as an ordinary citizen -what will happen if those you went after came after you?

Ukorebi Ita
Mbu bn overdo, period.all credible institutions in Nigeria now are being compromised even the Judiciary and funny enough, it's always a cross riverian or akwa ibomite that always condescends to doing the hatchet judgements and jobs.hmmmmm.

Ukorebi Ita You said it all sir. This should serve as a note of warning to our indigenes to stop embarrassing us further. Are we this cheap. Mbu should have applied wisdom, "NOTHING IS NOTHING" o.

Ochikiri Slyvanus Ochikiri
AIG Mbu has earned his dues. Mbu was too brave for them to make the IGP rank. The reactionary forces have behaved true to type following the betrayals of some of our brothers. That is why we must fight for a true federalism. We need more brave men in the minority ranks.

Odey David
This was inevitable. No way he was gonna survive under the APC led government

James Alicha
I am still very proud of Joseph Mbu, he used his opportunity well, he was heard, it's better to be heard while young than live and grow old without being notice.

Lawrence Emmanuel
Mbu is the best police office I have ever seen right from the history of police and he still remain the best

Samuel Odoba Ademu
MBU soils his hands from Rivers, his downfall started when he said " as a lion I tamed the Leopard in Rivers" referring to Amaechi. He was used by Gej and dumped.

Goddy O. Offem Michael
Mbu was never used by any anybody. He was only doing his job. This is a complete waste of manpower prematurely retiring such an experienced and fine officer.

Sylvestet Ewa
Mbu what ever you are aman

Matthew Nkanu Ubi
Mbu this, Mbu that, won't he retire and go home? To retire and go home alive or to be dismissed or die in active service, tell me which one is good?

Stop talking nonsense u enemy of progress n envy, is EFCC so made to hunt for a man who executed professionalism in the course of his duty? I don't blame u, u are nothing who will listen to your noise n jagons. U Nigeria are like that u wot love a discipline police officer who never compromise in line with is duty, beside b inform that being retired does not mean is an empty civilian like u @ Petter Offem n all his envy. Were u in any way told Mbu is corrupt except for his disciplinary rule?. N look that is there is no coperation n development in the south south region, I can see that all of u who are castigiting Mbu are from same zone with him, no wonder we can on crying for unity n we couldn't get. Nonsense.

75% of the CRS are now happy that the police boss never end his job  well. Why,because . He never shown love to his people. Everyone have a lesson to learn here.God bless the people's Government.

Akasa Bassey Enyam
rubish, rubish, rubish we all know that the police, efcc, dss etc are in the hands of the politician and the politicians in the hands of extensive gambling organization.what is the diff bw then and now?the presidency and those in power are using them for their dirty jobs. is even worst now.

Freedom Iwara
Mr Ubi are you happy that a man from your state was forcefully retired from NPF? Mbu was a gallant officer who  tamed the untamed and inordinate ambitions of people like Rotimi Amaechi. Its sad news for Cross River state. Please do not rejoice.

Paulyn Adeyemi Odey
He is not the only one involved so stop the personalization right. Posters and haters. He is for retirement due to the facts that his junior has been made the next IG… Point of correction posters and haters….. Do proper investigations before writing rubbish and post. When a junior person in an organisation is being promoted to a higher level, all the ones that were his seniors before the new appointment will definitely retire whether they like it or not even though not told cos u they will  never want to serve under their child(junior), Hope u get me? But in naija, the case is the reserve……. Why waiting until the pronouncement b4 leaving???? Take a bold step and write for resignation and have good commendation.

Him time don reach ?

Joseph Eyaba
Mbu is not d only AIG dat was retired so dont bring sentiment here. They r 21 in number.

Kufre Aaron
20 others is a ploy to cover d dastard act metted to 1

Nse Uya
I saw his retirement coming, soon as people referred to him as a CONTROVERSIAL  police officer.

Michael Asu
all the celestial saints have converged in Nigeria. halleluyàh

Livinus Promise Johnbosco
Lord have mercy

Emmanuel Eteng
The retirement of AIG Mr,Mbu J Mbu is never a shock to me he lived up to his expectation,he is a man we need as an IG,is a man who didn't take shit or tolerate nonsense from anybody, they call him controversial Mbu because,he is a man full of truth justice and equity, kudos my boss.

Mark Bukie Obi
We stop sounding as if Rotimi Amaechi was right and Mbu was wrong. Let's not forget that that there was an open rebellion against the Commander in Chief in the name of democracy. Mbu for all intent and purposes was responsible to a superior. If Mbu is not IG today it's the will of God. Mind you he was not singled out in this so called retirement. He is gone home with his honour and dignity and with his full entitlements

Obonganwan Ekpenyong Edim
Does he loose any benefits? Who has never been used by authority in power? Life is transient, here today, there tomorrow. We would all do same if given the opportunity.

Joe Oko Odey
GARLANDS FOR AIG JOSEPH MBU
A brave, yet down to earth and kind hearted man. An elite officer who served his country meritoriously. The highest ranking Cross riverian in the Police Force before his premature retirement. Here's wishing him every success in his future endeavours.

  1. The man who promised to kill unarmed civilians if anything happened to his men? What happened to charging them to the court? No sentiments, the man was too full of his importance! Good riddance I say.
