The indiscriminate and carefree movement of cattle in almost all nook and cranny in the capital city has become a concern to the Federal Government of Nigeria as they have condemned the incessant perambulation of cattle in the metropolis.
Authorities of the FCT, have argued that the Herdsmen have thrown deaf ears to several warnings to curtail the continued movement of cattle in Abuja metropolis and hence, will now be left to face the music and the attendant consequence that would ensue from their disregard of authorities!
The Senate, through its Committee on FCT, did on Monday, issue out a command to residents of the area to, slaughter any cow found roaming around in the city centre.
The "go" was handed down to the FCT minister, Alhaji Mohammed Bello, through the office of the , Senator Dino Melaye, Chairman of the committee (APC, Kogi West), when he appeared before the committee, yesterday.
Melaye informs that it is very demeaning , disappointing as well as embarrassing to know that the Herdsmen have chosen to disobey constituted authorities and disregard warnings.
While talking to the FCT minister, he urged him to slaughter any Cow seen disrupting the peace of the Capital city.
In his words:
“the Senate is not happy at how herdsmen continue to move their cows across the city centre, which we are aware you had given directive against some time ago.
“From now on, get knives and ask your men to slaughter cows found in the capital city or prosecute herdsmen seen with cows in the city centre with a fine of N50,000 per cow. This order must be carried out.”
He (Sen. Meyale) however noted that some people were under his watch, already undermining with careless abandon, the FCT authority, this he said was absolutely unacceptable.
