President Muhammadu Buhari and his deputy Yemi Osinbajo are losing out in the popularity rating in the country especially among the Muslim/northern Nigerian.

According to Obudu, Cross River-born social commentator, Simon Utsu 'The indigenes of the constituency which gave Buhari his largest bulk votes (2 million) Kano state have now resorted to subtly abusing Buhari and his deputy by naming cheap commodities after them'.

'A small (miserly) measure of Garri in the market is usually called Buhari and an equally paltry measure of groundnut is called Osinbajo by Kano people. 50 Naira is all you need to purchase a Buhari/Osinbajo delight in Kano markets', Utsu concluded.

He further noted that, 'In addition, in same Kano,  if you walk up to a 'mai-shai' and ask for a 'Buhari', he'll simply dole out a tiny morsel of bread and a small-sized cup sugarless tea to you at a cost of 50 Naira. How times have changed'.

Another account of a Katsina State residents who is from the south has it that the reason underlying why Buhari refused to celebrate the 2016 Salah celebration in his Daura hometown is because plans where on top gear to disgrace Buhari by stoning. Intelligence got wind of the ugly development and compelled Buhari to stay in Aso Villa. So, Mr President decided to dole out his executive salah largesse to those with disabilities.

Again, the election campaign phrase, 'Sai Baba, Sai Buhari', implying 'only Baba, only Buhari'; has evolved into a societal disinfectant especially among the Muslim/northern community in the country.

The reason for this trend in the country is the failure of the government at the centre to translate a tripod fold election campaign promise of revitalising a comatose economy, engaging the scourge of insecurity head-on and crusading against corruption into concrete realities. However, the gross failure of the government to meet economic promises stands at the vanguard of pitching the citizenry against the government. Businesses are folding up primarily because of the restrictions against the Dollars. The so-called flexible FOREX policy of the CBN isn't helping matters especially considering the fact that some prominent figures in government circle office are the ones directly benefitting from it.

The citizenry are calling on the present government to review its current economic policies or resign.
