NegroidHaven has just learnt that an unidentified and alleged car battery thief was, today, lynched at Akai Efa MCC this evening at about 5:30PM or thereabout. We are yet to confirm this information.

The unfortunate recipient is a male obviously in the prime of his life.

The question plaguing my mind is: who has the legitimate power to take life —the state or the individual? Who convicts who —the individual or state (that is, via the court)? Is society justified in taking life, no matter the provocation, without the endorsement of our legal code? When the state fails to met out justice appropriately —is a section of society right in taking life arbitrarily, primarily because of their losing faith in the justice system?
Recall that on Sunday, 18 June jungle justice was meted on three alleged thieves at Edim Otop, Calabar with four security outfits a stone throw from the scene of perpetration of inhumane act.
