Gentlemen of the press.

Thank you gentlemen of the press.

This edition is the 23rd edition of the annual Chief Justice of Nigeria Sports Competition, that is the Judiciary Games.

And it couldn’t have come at a better time to Cross River State other than now when the son of the soil, His Lordship Hon. Justice Walter Samuel Nkanu Onnoghen is the Chief Justice of Nigeria.

As of today, About 19 states have indicated interest to be part of this competition, and 11 federal Courts and judiciary institutions, in total, we are expecting about 1, 000 athletes and about 300 officials will be accompanying the athletes.

As we speak now, a lot of them are already on their way down to this great state. Cross River is a wonderful state.

For the few days I have been here, though the weather is calm and raining but we enjoy it because that makes a good atmosphere for sporting activities. All we want to see is a beautiful game here in Cross River State.

The game is a bond of friendship that unites the judiciary. That’s why we converge every year as a judiciary body to have us away from the usual carrying of files in the offices and minutes and memos. This game is purely for the judiciary we don’t tolerate mercenaries. All participating athletes are screened and all certified to be members of the judiciary either state or federal.
