Governor Ben Ayade has promised that Ogoja Rice will hit the market in May 2018 for both local consumption and export.
The expected rice will be product of the ongoing construction of the Ogoja rice mill.
The rice mill will be the first automated rice mill facility in Africa which is expected to have an output of five metric tons per hour.
To this end, the project would further boost the economy of the state and that of Ogoja zone in particular; while turning the state into the hub of rice production in Nigeria.
The Director General of the Cross Rivers State Due Process and Price intelligence Office, Mr Alphonsus, while on inspection and procurement tour of the project with some reporters said, “The fabrication of the mill and everything has been paid for hundred per cent and would be in the country before December 2017”.
Mr Alphonsus further disclosed that, “the block work will be completed in the next one or two weeks”
Expressing satisfaction with the level of work already done, he said the State Government was very pleased with the progress of the work.
Conducting officials and newsmen around the factory site, the representative of the contractors, AA univeral Agro limited, Mr Agbonate also gave assurances of the capacity of his company to deliver on time.
He stated that the rice mill has direct employment capacity of ten thousand, while buttressing that the mill will be fully automated and would be the first of it’s kind in Africa.
The Rice Mill is the brain child of Governor Ben Ayade and  it would be recalled that the ground breaking ceremony was performed by him on the 4th of November, 2016.
